Action Pastors College

Action Pastors College (APC) is a three year program.  APC equips Lusaka’s compound pastors and church leaders who serve in local churches. Not only does PLD empower existing leaders through instruction in Biblical exegesis, theology, church history, and practical ministry skills, but it is committed to developing personal relationships with these pastors to encourage spiritual growth and the fulfillment of God’s calling upon their lives. To that end, alongside classroom instruction students meet with the teachers in small groups for study and personal interaction.

Action Zambia is committed to providing these leaders a quality theological education in a basic curriculum of eighteen courses at a minimal cost to them. They pastor poor churches and have limited resources. Most of them have part-time employment to help support themselves in the ministry. We expect them to sustain some of the cost for books but provide the training at no charge. There are costs associated with this training that both we and they incur. The following are some of the financial needs of this program:

Participants travel across Lusaka using public transport. The estimated cost per student per month to and from class is $47.00. Students regularly walk long distances because they don’t have the money but this uses up valuable time that could be used for employment or ministry. It also deters students from attending during the rainy season. APC meets nine months of the year. The average cost per student would be $423 per year at a total annual cost of $6,345.

Participants cut work hours to be in the program for two hours a day, five days a week. This sometimes results in a lack of money to buy basic necessities. A 25 kg bag of mealy-meal, the main staple of their diet, can be purchased for $15.00, which supplies a family of four for approximately two weeks. We would like to provide each student a bag of mealy meal for nine months of the year to defray their costs. This would cost $135 a year per student at a total annual cost of $2,025.

APC provides books for the personal library of these pastors. Basic books for Bible study and sermon preparation include an NIV Study Bible, a Bible Dictionary, a commentary on the whole Bible, and textbooks for the coursework. Our estimated investment per student for the three year program is $300. This averages to $100.00 per student per year at a total cost of $1500.
